Zwischen den Zeiten – nach wie vor!

Since I see people struggling with writing paper or final reports here is my very personal very short intro to LaTeX.

1. Get LaTeX and an appropriate editor
2. Understand the thinking of markups – You want to have something look differently you need to mark it in the text
3. Understand how to structure your reference library or use a tool like jabref
4. Get a template for your document and start your document by adapting the example mostly provided
5. Get to know a basic set of markups

• Document Structure \chapter{}, \section{},\subsection{},\subsubsection{}
• Footnotes: \footnote[Number]{text}, if you do not put a number it will do it automatically
• Text highlighting {\bf Text} – Bold Text, {\it Text} – Italic Text
• References: \cite{ReferenceMarker} – this will generate a Citation
• Internal reference: Chapters, Section, Images,… could be marked with a \label{labeltext}, references to this labels can be done with \ref{labeltext}
• Enumerations and listings: Those are put into a special so called environment. All you need to know about that is environments are framed with \begin{environment} \end{environment}. For a enumerations it is \begin{enumerate} \end{enumerate} Each item in the enumeration is prefixed with a \item. It is identical for a listing \begin{listing} \item \item \end{listing}

That will get you through at least 90% of your document…. more or less…. Press the generate PDF button in your editor.

Will ich unter K9 Mail mehrer Mails markieren und löschen, so ist das fast eine unlösbare Aufgabe. Der Touchscreen erkennt das nicht richtig. Nehme ich das Telefon in die rechte Hand sind die Probleme weg…

Ist das jetzt ein reines G1 Problem, K9, Android?

Sicherlich ist es eine Gewöhnungssache, sicherlich gibt es einen guten Grund dafür,…. aber ich will die Kontrollelemente eines Fensters rechts und nicht links haben. Es steht schon tausendmal im Netz, aber damit ich es nicht suchen muss:

gconftool -s /apps/metacity/general/button_layout -t string ":minimize,maximize,close" 

Das stellt alles auf gewohntes aussehen um!

We are currently introducing S/MIME based encryption and signing for our mails. This works flawlessly an almost any desktop application. A question that came up was if there is support for our growing number of smartphones.

The question seems to be: Not for those platforms that we use. There is no support for IPhone, Android nor Symbian. There is no infortmation about Windows Mobile based devices… but who uses that anyway?

Blackberrys are the only mobile devices that have builtin S/MIME support. ( I had some hands-on time in the subway this morning)

I wonder why there is no support for secure e-mail communication on mobile devices?

Is there really no demand? What about all those business people running arround with their Nokias, Iphones or Androids?

PS. Could some IPhone user check if the phone is capable to display signed (NOT ENCRYPTED) mails??

Calendar: WTH? You cannot change to next day by swiping a page? Apple??

The combination of a Samsung X11 Laptop with a intel iwl3945 wifi chipset and Ubuntu 9.10 can be quite frustrating.
For some reasons it just won’t work. The Wireless LAN is detected and the user is queried for the password. After some time the process times out and the password is requested again, and again and again,…

The same combination works flawlessly on another Samsung X11. There seems to be some little difference between the different versions of Samsung X11 laptops….

That particular machine drives me nuts… Even an Update to the 2.6.33 Vanilla Kernel did not provide any improvements.

Google support reacted quite quickly. It seems to be a feature! Whenever a mail is sent to an address which is then redirected to the GMail Account it is suppressed to avoid mailfloods…

OK, it is true. I have some strange e-mail setup. I have different accounts at different providers, I have e-mail addresses at serveral domains where I run my own mailservers.

So what do I do for convenience reasons is: I forward most of my e-mail accounts to a Gmail account. And the for backup reasons I have the gmail account to forward a copy of each incoming mail to some other mailaccount on one of my servers.

This setup worked quite well. But for some time now someone changed something. There seems to be some sort of Bermuda Triangle within my personal Cloud!

Whenever I send an e-mail from my gmail account to an address on one of my domains address@maildomain , the following happens.

• Gmail accepts the e-mail
• E-Mail is delivered to my domains mailserver server.maildomain
• Mailserver forwards the mail to gmail
• E-mail is lost. It does not appear in my gmail inbox nor in my backup mailaccount.
• If I send an e-mail from some other account to my address@maildomain
• server.maildomain accepts e-mail and forwards it to gmail
• gmail displays the mail in my inbox
• gmail forwards it to otheraccount@maildomain
• server.maildomain accepts the message and stores it in my backupaccount…

Please Google: Fix your servers or tell my why what I am doing is wrong!

So… jetzt ist auch diese Domain umgezogen. Wenn dieser Artikel angezeigt wird ist es schon der neue Server. Ich hoffe die Seite läuft weiterhin einigermaßen stabil!

Da wollte ich heute eine eps Grafik in eine Visio Vorlage einfügen. Komischerweise scheint Visio kein EPS zu unterstützen. Komisch eigentlich, dass man diese Dateien in einer Sammlung an Grafiken für Dokumentvorlagen findet. Irgendwas muss sich derjenige ja gedacht haben der das Zusammengestellt hat.

Zweiter Versuch: Powerpoint…. Problemlos. Powerpoint unterstützt also EPS. Dann halt das Bild mit  kopieren und einfügen aus Powerpoint nach Visio transferieren….

Wie schwer kann es sein denselben Importfilter in zwei Produkte eines Herstellers einzubinden????
