1. Get LaTeX and an appropriate editor
2. Understand the thinking of markups – You want to have something look differently you need to mark it in the text
3. Understand how to structure your reference library or use a tool like jabref
4. Get a template for your document and start your document by adapting the example mostly provided
5. Get to know a basic set of markups

• Document Structure \chapter{}, \section{},\subsection{},\subsubsection{}
• Footnotes: \footnote[Number]{text}, if you do not put a number it will do it automatically
• Text highlighting {\bf Text} – Bold Text, {\it Text} – Italic Text
• References: \cite{ReferenceMarker} – this will generate a Citation
• Internal reference: Chapters, Section, Images,… could be marked with a \label{labeltext}, references to this labels can be done with \ref{labeltext}
• Enumerations and listings: Those are put into a special so called environment. All you need to know about that is environments are framed with \begin{environment} \end{environment}. For a enumerations it is \begin{enumerate} \end{enumerate} Each item in the enumeration is prefixed with a \item. It is identical for a listing \begin{listing} \item \item \end{listing}

That will get you through at least 90% of your document…. more or less…. Press the generate PDF button in your editor.

What this software does is pretty smart. It gets the data stream of a complete transponder and feeds it to a set multicast addresses in your network. Usually 4-5 channels are distributed via a single transponder.This means also if you want to simultaneously stream channels which are not on the same transponder you have to have several TV receivers.

Mumudvb uses the Session Announcement Protocol to inform clients about the available channels, VLC will detect them automatically.  Using multicast is pretty smart, that way the sender only has to send out the data once for all receivers in a network. So there is no difference whether you connect a single or 15 receivers simultaneously.

It took me about 10 minutes to get it up and running on a Ubuntu 10.04 box with a Hauppauge HVR-900 DVB-T receveiver connected to it. Mumudvb is available through the repositories. All that has to be done is to change the configuration file. There is a sample config file for full autoconfiguration that can be used. I commented all things related to DVB-S out, got a channel list for my region, and changed the frequency according to the transponder I wanted to receive.

After that I did a:

mumudvb -d -s -t -c myconfile.conf

and it immediately started the streaming.

Then I set up multiple receivers. If you use VLC this is the way to go:

1. Go to Media / Files (Whatever the first Menuentry might be) -> Service Discovery (Diensterkennung)  and check SAP Announcements
2. Open the Playlist
3. Select a Channel from SAP and doubleclick it
4. Enjoy

Streaming the complete transponder to the network produces constantly about 1.8 megabytes of data (300-450 kilobytes / s) . On the Gigabit test network that was not an issue. I don’t know what happens if you try that on a wireless link. I conected about 10 receivers simultaneously with VLC on different plattforms, which worked flawlessly. Changing channels is even faster compared to switching channels on a DVB receiver. Processing power seemed not to be a problem.

Mumudvb is very flexible and has a lot of configuration parameters which I did not try… But the documentation says it is even capable to stream crypted channels if this is legal in your country.

The question seems to be: Not for those platforms that we use. There is no support for IPhone, Android nor Symbian. There is no infortmation about Windows Mobile based devices… but who uses that anyway?

Blackberrys are the only mobile devices that have builtin S/MIME support. ( I had some hands-on time in the subway this morning)

I wonder why there is no support for secure e-mail communication on mobile devices?

Is there really no demand? What about all those business people running arround with their Nokias, Iphones or Androids?

PS. Could some IPhone user check if the phone is capable to display signed (NOT ENCRYPTED) mails??

Calendar: WTH? You cannot change to next day by swiping a page? Apple??

The same combination works flawlessly on another Samsung X11. There seems to be some little difference between the different versions of Samsung X11 laptops….

That particular machine drives me nuts… Even an Update to the 2.6.33 Vanilla Kernel did not provide any improvements.
